Experience the full spectrum of Morocco without the stress of planning. This curated 7 days in Morocco itinerary from Casablanca is designed for travelers who want to see the highlights—from the blue walls of Chefchaouen to the golden dunes of Merzouga—without sacrificing comfort.
You won’t just visit Morocco; you will cross the High Atlas, sleep under Saharan stars, and get lost in the world’s oldest medieval city.
Drive Time: Approx. 1 hour (Airport transfer)
Focus: Arrival & The Hassan II Mosque
Your private driver will greet you at Mohammed V International Airport (CMN). Depending on your arrival time, we dive straight into the grandeur of Casablanca. The highlight is the Hassan II Mosque, one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims. Standing on a promontory over the Atlantic, its minaret is the tallest in the world, and the craftsmanship—intricate mosaics and cedar wood—is the perfect introduction to Moroccan artistry.
Overnight: Comfortable Hotel in Casablanca.
Drive Time: ~5.5 hours total
Focus: Capital City History & Mountain Vibes
We depart the coast for Rabat, the current capital. Here, you’ll explore the Kasbah of the Udayas with its Andalusian gardens and the iconic Hassan Tower. After lunch, the landscape shifts dramatically as we climb into the Rif Mountains.
You will arrive in Chefchaouen (The Blue City) by late afternoon. The cool mountain air and the washed-blue buildings create a relaxed atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the country.
Activity: Free evening to wander the medina, photograph the blue stairs, and watch the sunset from the Spanish Mosque trail.
Overnight: Traditional Riad in Chefchaouen.
Drive Time: ~4 hours
Focus: Ancient History & Archaeology
After a breakfast overlooking the Rif mountains, we journey back in time. Our first stop is Volubilis, the best-preserved Roman ruins in North Africa. Walk among ancient olive presses and intricate floor mosaics that have survived for two millennia.
A short drive brings us to Meknes, the Ismaili capital famous for the colossal Bab Mansour gate. We then complete the imperial triangle by arriving in Fes, the spiritual heart of Morocco.
Overnight: Riad in the Fes Medina.
Drive Time: Minimal (Walking Tour)
Focus: Culture, Handicrafts, and Spiritual Heritage
Today, meet your knowledgeable local guide for a curated discovery of Fes, blending select panoramic stops with an in-depth walking exploration of the Medina of Fes el Bali — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world’s largest car-free urban zone.
Begin with a visit to the Golden Doors of the Royal Palace, an impressive introduction to the city’s imperial heritage. Continue toward the famous Chouara Tanneries, where leather has been naturally dyed for centuries in iconic stone vessels. Along the way, admire the refined architecture of the historic madrasas, including Al Attarine or Bou Inania, celebrated for their intricate zellij tilework and carved cedar. Wander through the vibrant souks, following narrow alleyways filled with spices, perfumes, and traditional copper craftsmanship.
Overnight: Riad in the Fes Medina.
Drive Time: ~7 hours (The “Big Drive” – highly scenic)
Focus: Changing Landscapes & Desert Adventure
Get your cameras ready. Today we cross the Middle Atlas Mountains. We’ll stop in Ifrane (often called “Little Switzerland” for its alpine architecture) and the Cedar Forest of Azrou, home to wild Barbary macaque monkeys.
The landscape turns arid as we descend through the Ziz Valley, a ribbon of green palm groves cutting through red rock. By late afternoon, the paved road ends, and the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi appear. You’ll trade the 4×4 for camels, trekking into the sunset to reach your desert camp.
The Experience: Berber drumming around a campfire, a traditional dinner, and a sky full of stars.
Overnight: Luxury Desert Camp (Private tent with ensuite bathroom).
Drive Time: ~5 hours
Focus: Geological Wonders
Wake up early for the sunrise over the dunes—a moment of pure silence. After breakfast and a shower at camp, we head west to the Todra Gorges. Here, 300-meter vertical rock walls create a narrow canyon paradise for climbers and photographers.
We continue along the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs,” passing ancient mud-brick fortresses, to reach the Dades Valley. We’ll wind up the serpentine roads to see the curious “Monkey Fingers” rock formations.
Overnight: Guest House/Hotel in Dades Valley with panoramic views.
Drive Time: ~6 hours
Focus: Hollywood History & Mountain Passes
Our final day is a grand finale. We drive through the Rose Valley and Ouarzazate to reach Ait Ben Haddou. This fortified village (ksar) is a UNESCO site and a star of Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and The Mummy.
The last leg of our journey takes us over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m) in the High Atlas Mountains. The views are breathtaking, with snow-capped peaks and Berber villages clinging to the slopes. We descend into the red plains of Marrakech, dropping you off at your hotel or the airport.

Morocco is a large country. Day 5 (Fes to Merzouga) is the longest drive (~7 hours), but we break it up with stops at the Cedar Forest and Ziz Valley. We believe the scenery makes the journey just as memorable as the destination.
One day is usually enough to see the main highlights of Casablanca, such as the Hassan II Mosque and the Central Market.
The best time to visit Morocco is during spring (March-May) and fall (September-November) when the weather is mild.
