This Luxury Marrakech desert tour to Erg Chigaga starts by leaving from the red city of Marrakech. First, drive deep into the High Atlas Mountains on a road that overlooks the mountains’ foothills with all the Berber villages that inhabit them. The first stop will be the UNESCO world heritage site know as Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a fortified village built in the 11th century. Next 35 km later we will be visiting Africa’s Hollywood, Ouarzazate where the biggest film studios of the content are present. Afterward, we will drive along the longest valley in Morocco, Draa valley which is 1052 km long, to get to Agdez where the remains of an Almoravide fortress. Dinner and overnight stay will be held at a Luxury hotel.
Early morning after breakfast, we continue our drive by the Draa river we will stop in the town of Tamagrout to visit one of the kingdom’s most ancient libraries before continuing our way to the cozy village of M’hamid then deep into the Erg Chigaga dunes. From there we will trek by camel at sunset (the most beautiful you will ever see) to reach our luxury camp; Camel ride on the dunes of Erg Chigaga, following by music spent under the night sky.
Early morning, after breakfast in Erg Chigaga camp, starting with 4WD via the old Paris – Dakar race road to Foum Zguid crossing the natural dry Iriqui lake, lunch break in the Berber village of Taznakht; Then we arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon around 6 pm and you will be dropped off in your Riad.
Early morning pick up from your hotel in Marrakech at 8 a.m., and leave to the High Atlas mountains; Going then through Tizi N’Tichka port with stops for panoramic views and taking pictures of the Berber small villages that camouflage in the landscape; Continue south to the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou where we will visit the famous Kasba. Popular films have been shot on this spectacular stage, including Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, Sahara with Penélope Cruz, and many more; Have free time for lunch in town. Later continue then to Ouarzazate also known as The gate of the desert; Which in the Berber language means. Inside this Valley damascenes, roses are raised for cosmetic use such as the valued rosewater. That Rose Festival is held here annually in May, it is an important museum for Moroccan culture. We reach the Dades valley where we’ll spend the night.
After breakfast at the luxury hotel, we’ll enjoy then one of the most beautiful views of the Dades Valley; From one strategic lookout in the mountains, from there we can appreciate the great number of kasbahs and the scenic characteristics of each one. Then road leads up the valley from the city of Tinerhir to the gorge and then to the desert. Next some stops on the way, we’ll reach the Todra Gorges. Gratitude to its rock sides with many uneven surfaces, these gorges are popular among rock climbers. Following a short walk in the Todra gorges, you’ll have free time for lunch in Tinejdad or Touroug and then we continue our way to the desert to reach the spectacular dunes of Erg Chebbi at Merzouga; Then, we’ll take there a camel ride of one hour to our Luxury desert camp, found in the middle of dunes (Erg Chebbi); Later we’ll see the sunset at the top of a dune, at night enjoy local music around the fire, sleep in a luxury tent under a beautiful starry sky
